Both factors have been the subject of considerable research but questions remain concerning the influence of these factors. In this paper we extend previous research by examining both effects of rural-urban residence and region on three dimensions of religiosity: ritualistic, experiential, and ideological. Data for the study are drawn from the General Social Survey of N.O.R.C. for 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988. Our findings indicate that while both rural-urban and regional variations affect religiosity, regional variations account for more of the difference. The findings suggest that the South and Midwest are more alike than they are with the East and West, which also show certain similarities. Two suggestions for further research are suggested by our study.
