The results are compared with the earlier findings of Francis and Brown (1990) among eleven-year-olds. Among sixteen-year-olds the influence of church is stronger and the influence of parents is weaker than among eleven-year-olds in determining both the attitudinal predisposition to pray and the practice of prayer. While Roman Catholic secondary schools have no direct influence on their pupils' attitudes towards prayer, after controlling for the influence of home and church, Church of England schools are shown to exert a small but significant negative influence. | ||
