Per capita giving to ELCA congregations increased over the last decade while giving to the synods and national organization of the ELCA decreased. Anger or dissatisfaction of clergy with the expressions of the ELCA beyond the congregation is not an important factor in predicting congregational giving decisions with regard to the synods or the national organization. At the same time, there is evidence of distance and disinterest on the part of laity. Finally, it is clear that congregational pledge systems increase per capita giving at the congregational level, with lesser impact from congregational emphases on tithing or stewardship education. | ||
