It is necessary to distinguish the institutionalized spiritual from the general concept of the spiritual. The spiritual in man appears within the aspects of man on which sociology is focused only inasmuch as it is the institutionalized spiritual. Sociology requires a meta-sociology in order to develop a model of man adequate for the whole of human existence.
