As CFM has continued to grow, it has developed the capacity to withstand fragmentation and conflict and still pursue its formally stated goals. The findings have important implications for a theory of social movements. For it becomes increasingly imperative that we draw from other corners of sociological theory, namely, that of complex organizations, in order to develop a suitable framework for understanding the internal dynamics of movements over time.
