This impact should be a function of the effectiveness of the means the colleges take to this end, i.e., their structures of religious socialization. This research finds student cathexis of present structures varies with several correlates, and suggests that these structures are ineffective because of: (1 ) the traditional orientation of those structures; and (2) the tendency of this age group to criticize or reject tradition.
