Zusammenfassung:Data from a random sample of midwestern college students was used to test a variety of measures of religiosity as predictors of sexual permissiveness. Faulkner and Dejong's “5-D Scale of Religiosity” based upon Glock and Stark's proposed dimensions proved to be the best indicator of the dependent variable. Empirical support is thus provided for the five-dimensional conceptualization of religiosity. The data indicate that religiosity is causally related to sexual permissiveness, and the inverse relationship between religiosity and sexual permissiveness appears to be stronger for groups characterized by traditional value systems and those which have a minimum of normative conflict.
