Summary:Sociological research consists at the present time predominantly in the investigation of the quantitative dimensions traceable in the field. This is a necessary and fruitful undertaking, but it should not be allowed to become an end in itself. Rather than as a point of arrival, it should be considered as a point of departure. Even the information to which it leads will only teach us what it can teach us, if we see it in the light of a comprehensive cultural interpretation.
