Intergenerational differences and similarities result from the “fresh contact” of each succeeding generation with the accumulating cultural heritage of a society. At least two types of generational cleavage are significant at the level of the local church: (1) those that are created by differences in chronological age, and (2) those that are created by differences in the length of time that members have been affiliated with a particular church. A survey study of a single congregation is used to identify correlates of both types of generational cleavage, particularly church generation cleavage. | ||
