The assumption that both lines of items form a single dimension is tested through factoring techniques. Reliability is also assessed. Results indicate that items from both sources do converge into a single dimension and discriminate from other types of indicators. Reliability is quite high. This suggests that civil religion as measured in the earlier studies is of the same conceptualization as that in the historical texts.
