| 520 | |a This thesis aims to discuss the presence of young men and women in the participation spaces of the parochial communities of the Catholic Church, which belong to the Youth Ministry of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, discussing questions and positionings of the Church and of the aforementioned Ministry related to the intergenerational and gender issues, based on the Assemblies of the People of God, which started their history in 1990 with the Ministerial Project Building the Hope and whose most recent edition happened in 2019. The Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte comprehends 28 counties, Belo Horizonte, and its Metropolitan Region. The thesis, of qualitative nature, upon systematic and hermeneutic analysis of documents and bibliographic references of the theoretical framework, based on documents of the Catholic Church, such as the Gaudium et Spes, from the Vatican Council II, of the Latin-American conferences, of the CNBB, of the Youth Ministry, of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, of the records of such Ministry in the Archdiocese, and of Pope Francis, considering his approach in the perspective of the youths and of the young women. It approaches the history of the Assemblies of the People of God, memorable events of the Archdiocese of BH and the gender and youth highlights deliberated as final texts, fruit of these processes. Moreover, it tries to understand how these documents affect the history of the Ministry of Youth of Belo Horizonte, since 2019, when the rearticulation of this ministry at the archdiocesan level happens. The conclusions show that, despite the identified historical problems regarding the low participation of young people and the invisibility of the young women, the Youth Ministry has started and can favor the reflections about gender equity, women empowerment and their participation, as well as the discussion about masculinity and violence against women. However, such discussion is very recent, and it is necessary to continue the studies on this perspective, in order to understand how the young who participate of this ministry have been assimilating this topic in their daily lives.
