| 520 | |a The cult of the saints summarizes in itself and strengthens to the maximum degree an essential aspect of late-antique and early-medieval Christianity, providing an indissoluble link between the material traces (bodies and relics) and the immaterial traces (dreams and visions) of the presence of the divine in the world. This paper, recalling the main lines of the historiography of the last decades and suggesting new interpretative paradigms: the cult of saints in Late Antiquity and in the Early Middle Ages is closely connected with the enhancement of all the signs (or ‘windows’) of the divine, perceived above all as power, victory and glory; this cult appears as a complex cultural phenomenon that promotes continuous experimentation and therefore cannot be explained in linear terms of imitation or filiation.Il culto dei santi riassume in sé e potenzia al massimo grado un aspetto essenziale del cristianesimo tardoantico e altomedievale, poiché in esso si legano indissolubilmente le tracce materiali (corpi e reliquie) e le tracce immateriali (sogni e visioni) della presenza del divino nel mondo. Questo articolo richiama le principali linee storiografiche degli ultimi decenni e suggerisce nuovi paradigmi interpretativi: il culto dei santi nella Tarda Antichità e nel Primo Medioevo è strettamente connesso con la valorizzazione di tutti i segni (o ‘finestre’) del divino, percepito soprattutto come potenza, vittoria e gloria; tale culto appare come un fenomeno culturale complesso che promuove una continua sperimentazione e perciò non spiegabile in termini lineari di imitazione o filiazione. | ||
