Description
Summary:This study is the result of a bibliographic research and it aims to reflect on the process of Catholicization in the old high North of Goiás in the 1950s - region that today is the North of Tocantins. This process of catholicization was led by a group of religious: the Italian Catholic missionaries known as Orionines. The sources analyzed were Quinto Tonini’s memory records. The hypothesis is that, when the missionaries developed a missionary work to serve the people of that place, they contributed to the catholicization of the region. The methodology was based on the analysis of Tonini's work, considering studies on the relationship between church and society. The justification is the need to reflect on the relationship between the mission led by these missionaries and the result of that mission, which seems to be the building of Catholicism in the context under discussion.
