Zusammenfassung:At the beginning of the fourteenth century, a small number of Languedoc Beguin heretics sparsely confessed dissident ecclesiological ideas that challenged the prevailing model of authority within the Roman Church. The main source of their dissent was the work of Peter John Olivi that had greatly influenced the recalcitrant Spiritual Franciscans of Narbonne. At the same period, a particular group of Waldensians presented a practical example of dissident ecclesiology by adopting a three-tier hierarchy outside the Roman Church. Overall, this article aims to present glimpses of the above-mentioned dissident ecclesiologies and then use them to comment on Lester R. Kurtz's sociological approach to heresy.
