They are case studies that will interest both historians and anthropologists. At the center of each "story" that the authors record and capture in order to explore a longue durée history of practices and concepts, in the chronologically first two articles, and in the third, an ethnographic picture shot of the contemporary political mood, the context of religious plurality is highlighted as a capillary source nourishing cultural imagination of the peoples inhabiting the Indian Ocean and Peninsular India.
