Are Catholic women likely to express a feminist spirituality by being active in social justice causes? Results from this study indicate that the more women espouse a feminist spiritual orientation, the more likely they are to be active in social justice concerns. Catholic sisters are most likely to be involved in social justice causes among the 3,746 women surveyed in this cross-denominational study. Sisters have support for engaging in social action among groups (feminist or otherwise) in their orders. Being part of a feminist spirituality group is more important for other women in channeling and sustaining their work for social justice and systemic change. But having multiple group memberships and spending time in community outreach to the needy appear to facilitate and increase social activism among all women surveyed. | ||
