Dans cet article, je me situe à l’intersection de la tradition des autels domestiques et de l’utilisation contemporaine de la photographie, dans une perspective de religion vécue. L’objectif est de clarifier quelles sont les réalités sacrées qui structurent la vie quotidienne des participants latino-américains. J’observe que la pratique consistant à exposer des photographies chez soi est une forme de « pratique de sacralisation ». La recherche est basée sur les données d’un échantillon de vingt-cinq personnes interrogées dans trois villes (Córdoba, Argentine; Lima, Pérou; Montevideo, Uruguay), provenant de quatre affiliations religieuses (Catholiques, Protestants, Umbanda, Non-Affiliés) et de deux statuts socio-économiques (bas et haut/moyen). En recourant à une analyse à plusieurs niveaux des photographies exposées à domicile (pictures displayed at home, PDH), j’ai étudié la matérialité, le contexte d’affichage et les motifs représentés. Les résultats montrent que les participants, qu’ils soient religieux ou non, sacralisent les relations et les moments fondateurs, même les événements non pris en compte par les chercheurs. | ||

In this article, I stand at the intersection of the tradition of domestic shrines and the contemporary use of photography, from a perspective of lived religion. The aim is to clarify what are the sacred realities that structure daily life for Latin American participants. I argue that the practice of displaying pictures at home is a form of ‘sacralization practice’. The research is based on data from a sample of 25 respondents from three cities (Córdoba, Argentina; Lima, Perú; Montevideo, Uruguay), four religious affiliations (Catholics, Protestants, Umbanda, Non-Affiliated), and two socioeconomic statuses (lower and upper/middle). Employing a layered analysis of pictures displayed at home (PDH), I studied the materiality, the context of the display, and the motifs portrayed. The results show that participants, both religious and non-affiliated, sacralize foundational relationships and moments, even the events scholars disregard. | ||
