We on the other hand turn our attention to the work of two thinkers who take a different methodological path: Michel de Certeau und Bruno Latour are not interested in intellectuals and their texts but in religious practices and religious speech. Both highlight the practical and performative aspect of religion. Concentrating on two writers who in their works explicitly argue as catholics is not accidental but evidently intended. Finally, we want to examine the question of whether it is heuristically possible to distinguish between a protestant strand of thinking that focuses more on intellectual and intentional modes of signification and a catholic strand of thinking that accentuates the production of meaning through practices and rituals. If so, religion not only appears as a specific object of research but also as part of ones own set of categories, terms, and methods. | ||
| 520 | |a Während Wolfgang Eßbach in seiner historisch angelegten Religionssoziologie den Weg einer Intellektuellensoziologie geht, um anhand der Erfahrungen und Äußerungen von Intellektuellen etwas über die religiöse Situation der jeweiligen Zeit zu erfahren, wollen wir in diesem Beitrag näher auf die Arbeiten zweier Autoren eingehen, die einen anderen Weg vorschlagen: Michel de Certeau und Bruno Latour interessieren sich nicht für Intellektuelle, sondern für religiöse Praktiken und religiöse Rede. In ihren Arbeiten wird daher konsequent der praktisch-performative Aspekt von Religion in den Vordergrund gerückt. Dass wir gerade auf zwei Autoren zurückgreifen, die sich selbst als Katholiken identifiziert haben, ist durchaus beabsichtigt. Der Beitrag möchte schließlich auch der Frage nachgehen, ob man nicht aus heuristischen Gründen einen stärker auf Intellektualität und Intentionalität setzenden protestantischen Strang des Denkens von Religion und einen eher auf Praktiken und Ritualität setzenden katholischen Strang des Denkens von Religion unterscheiden müsste, ob Religion also nicht nur als wissenschaftliches Thema, sondern auch auf der Ebene der eigenen religionssoziologischen Beobachtungskategorien auftaucht. | ||
