Description
Résumé:This article intends to discuss the Baptist purposes and methods to conversion and evangelization of Brazilian indigenous people for the period thereafter the 1920s and 1930s, analyzing the scope of actions of Brazilian Mission Board of Brazilian Baptist Convention, responsible for centralizing the missionary activity in the range of the First Republic. The main of this article is to understand the Baptist insertion in the context of indigenous mission of this period from the indication of L. M. Bratcher and its distinction from the other Protestant denominations, like Presbyterians and Independent Presbyterians, and also from the Catholic Church. In this regard, this research delves into, under the gaze of Cultural History, a case study of the missions headed by Zacharias Campello in the north of Goiás state, highlighting the missionary work difficulties and looking for understanding the motivations that contributed to the failure process of Baptist missions with indigenous people of this region.
