En dépit des occurrences majoritaires de cette conjugaison, l’existence de l’élément -n dans une conjugaison à suffixe parmi des documents non-littéraires tels que des lettres ou des textes juridiques (KTU 2.70; KTU 3.2; KTU 3.5) permet de douter de cette explication. Dans la présente étude, je propose deux origines homonymiques pour le morphème -n. Je suggère que la formation d’une conjugaison ougaritique à suffixe dotée d’un morphème -n résulte d’un réanalyse syntaxique de la construction égyptienne sdm.n.f. Cette étude met ainsi en lumière un contact linguistique morphosyntaxique entre l’égyptien et les langues ouest-sémitiques. | ||
| 520 | |a The surplus nasal consonant -n attached to verbs before an object suffix, customarily termed the energic -n, is well-known in Ugaritic. Past discussion of the energic -n, however, has been predicated on its appearance and usage in the prefix conjugation. Despite the prevailing occurrence in the prefix conjugation, the -n element is not restricted to its morphological position. The existence of the )n element in the suffix conjugation from non-literary writings such as letters and legal documents (KTU 2.70; KTU 3.2; KTU 3.5) weakens the explanation for the exceptional cases by style alone. In this paper, I propose the two homonymic origins for the -n morpheme. I argue that the formation of the Ugaritic non-prefix conjugation with an -n morpheme results from the syntactic reanalysis from the Egyptian sdm.n.f construction. By examining the attested cases of an -n bearing non-prefix conjugation in Ugaritic literary compositions, letters, and legal documents, this paper’s finding sheds light on a morpho-syntactic level of linguistic contact between Egyptian and West Semitic languages. | ||
