Дослідник не обгрунтовує при цьому своє бачення особливостей релігійності Івана Франка. Скоріше він виходив з ототожнення вільнодумства з атеїзмом і не визнавав наявність релігійної вільнодумності в українців. А між тим вона є домінуючою. Справа в тому, що Церкви ще якось сприймають свободу релігії, свободу віросповідань, але кожна з них не допускає собі свободу В релігії, свободу В своєму віросповіданні. Будьякі відхилення від догматів чи канонів, довільне витлумачення окремих положень віровчення, а тим більше антиклерикалізм, сприймається нею як єресь, а зрештою кваліфікується як атеїзм. Саме тому незручним був Іван Франко для церковного керівництва греко-католиків Галичини, а православні користувалися тими його творами, де він піддавав критиці Ватикан, його політику щодо слов‘янства. Про праці мислителя, в яких ним розглядалися світоглядні проблеми, навіть не йшла мова. | ||
