Entretanto, a história nacional e as recentes conjunturas políticas, associadas às diversas formas de interação entre religião e esfera pública, demonstram que ainda hoje a laicidade permanece sendo um conceito em disputa no país. | ||

In France, a 2004 law that aimed to ban the using of "ostensible" religious symbols in public schools were enforced along with intellectual and political discourses that conveyed the idea of republican neutrality, in order to oppose moderate trends for the managing and assertion of religious and ethnic pluralism by the State. Nevertheless, French national history and its recent political conjunctures, associated with the various ways of interaction between religion and public sphere, demonstrate that secularism is still a disputed concept in that country. | ||
