Summary: | InNigeria,womenhavebeensubjectedtopromiscuityandallotherformsofillicitco-habitationintheirattempttocontributetheirquotastowardthedevelopmentofthecountry.Asaresultofthis,someMuslimsscholarshavecalledforthepreventionofwomenfromactiveinvolvementinsocio-politicalhappeningsinNigeria.Hence,thispaperfocusesontherolesofwomeninIslamichistorywithabidtoencouragingNigerianMuslimwomentowardcontributingtheirquotastotheprogressofthenation.ItconceptualiseswomenfromIslamicperspectiveandhighlightsthestatusofwomengloballybeforetheadventofIslamiccivilisationsespeciallyintheJahilīyyah(pre-IslamicArabian)period.ThispaperalsoexaminesthestatusofwomeninIslamandidentifiesvariouswaysbywhichIslamimprovedtremendouslythestatusofwomenacrosstheArablandandbyextensionintheworldentirely.Ithistoricisesthesocialandreligio-politicalrolesofwomeninIslamwithrelevancequotationsfromQur’ān,HadīthandIslamichistory.ThepapersuggestswaysofimprovingonitwithdueattentiontothedictateofSharī‘ah(Islamiclaw)aswellasthephysiologicalandpsychologicalcompositionofwomen.IthighlightshowMuslimwomeninNigeriacaneffectivelypartakeinnationbuildingintheirchosencarrierswithoutjettisoningtheirrolesaswivesandasmotherswithinthelimitofMaqāsidal-Sharī‘ah(theobjectiveofSharī‘ah).Thepaperemployshistoricalanddocumentarymethodsinbringingoutitsfindingsandconcludesbyrecommendingsomeresearch-basedapproacheswhichincludestheneedforMuslimwomentoalwaysavoidfreemixingwiththeoppositesexandtheymustcovertheirentirebody,doawaywithsee-throughapparentandclothesthatexposeordescribetheshapeoftheirbodyintheirattempttocontributetheirquotastowardsthedevelopmentofthecountry. |
