For Peter Damian, a sodomite priest loses all legitimacy in the administration of the sacraments and even endangers the community of the faithful. It is possible that the author of the Liber Gomorrhianus was influenced on this point by the Epistola Widonis, a text composed by Gui of Arezzo around 1020. His position is radical and would be modified a few years later in the Liber Gratissimus. On the other hand, the sin of sodomy has been presented as « irremissible » by various historians in recent years. But sodomite monks, like other sinners, can certainly be saved if they do penance. | ||
