Summary: | The presence of liaisons between religion and terrorism in the contemporary visual culture is quite common. Images of terror are provided mainly by the media, which promotes, among other things, perpetuating the notion that religious terrorism is an exclusively Islamic phenomenon. The specificity of the media representation is in line with the logic of the news: it operates mostly with shortcuts, simplifications and emotions coming from sensationalism. Unlike the media, the cinematography seems to be an area that does not have such restrictions. Although screenplays do not avoid human emotions, ideological tensions, propaganda instrumentalization, the film is potentially a place for a formulation of the problem and its in-depth analysis. It is up to the director to take advantage of this opportunity: how many questions he will pose, in what way he will pose them, how much ideological space he will leave the viewer and how many solutions will be proposed as ready packages of world views. |
