While an orthodox icon is believed to be an image directly associated to the sanctity and needing strict iconographic rules, the pictures in Catholicism have fluctuated as far as a meaning bound to their origin, functions, form and subject matter, the strength of the influence on a looker-on and of the sacredness radiation are concerned. Contemporaneousness, bringing such phenomena as art crisis and secularisation, stimulates questions of present-day meanings of religious pictures. | ||
