| 520 | |a It is possible to understand the Buddhist thought in relation to neo-Taoism in the Six Daynsties. Neo-Taoism plays a key role in the acceptance of Buddhism. The Buddhist of those days explained the main concepts of Buddhism through neo-Taoism logic. This study focuses on ‘the argument about body(形) and mind(神)’, which is about the matter of life and death including the matter of causality and samsara. This argument had changed an aspect because of the maturity of understanding the Buddhist concepts with the interpretation of Buddhist cannon by Kumarajiva. Especially "Mingfu-lun" shows the changed aspect which is the treatise on the Buddhist interpretaion about the Chinese concepts. For example, ‘the essential nothing’ is ‘emptiness’, ‘spiritual intelligence’ is ‘Dharmakaya’ and ‘imperishability of the soul’ is ‘permanent of Dharmakaya’. These concpets is a critical clue of the understanding of the Shen(神) concept and the Buddhist thought of those days, which is connected to the discussion on Nirvana and Buddha-nature. | ||
