Summary: | The determination of the phonetic equivalents of numbers in the Hittite texts is one of the cases in which Hittite research proceeds slowly and laboriously. The word "thousand" to be discussed in this study regarding its phonetic equivalent in Hittite is also a number of high sacred significance, which as a concept possibly goes back to the pre-Hittite times of ancient Anatolia, since this number often appears in the cult term "a thousand gods." The lexical investigations show that the phonetic reading of "thousand" in the Hittite texts is ša/ekriwhich can be etymologically and semantically related to the PIE root *sakro-. |
