His disciple Roger Marston takes up the arguments in large passages of his De Anima, which nevertheless also presents an original element: invective against theologi philosophantes, who, while not philosophers, use metaphysics clumsily for their own reflection. In this way they undermine proper theological reflection. Marston chooses simplicity against fallacious speculative contortions. What emerges is a methodological concern, as well as a clear theological stance, with profound spiritual implications. Indeed, these problems are not addressed for the purpose of mere erudition, but in the service of salvation. | ||
