Description
Summary:The Church of Scientology was founded in the early 1950s in the United States and since then has expanded around the world, with most of its major population centers found in English-speaking countries. Scientology’s status as a global and minority religion is examined, with comparative attention to successes and challenges faced in the United States, Taiwan, and France, among other countries. Attention is also given to Scientology’s theology and practices from a minority religious perspective, as well as controversies, public relations and legal strategies, interfaith initiatives, the Sea Organization (the Church of Scientology’s clergy), and the small network of Scientology splinter groups.
