Description
Résumé:There are many ways to understand Thomas Merton. As an immigrant woman religious from the East who now resides in the West, I read and reflect on Thomas Merton as a moving signifier in my life, an indicating finger to the hole and the Emptiness, the Mystery, who is unknown. In a very unexpected way, Merton emerged from the horizon of seeking God into my wandering journey, where I crossed borders of culture, geographic division and religion. As a sojourner and ardent seeker, Merton also crossed various borders with an honest and contemplative heart. My engagement with Merton manifests as a set of dances that appreciate yet critique his view on religious life, intimacy, contemplation, social justice and Eastern spirituality in a global world. This reflection emphasizes the process of the journey into the unknown.
