Description
Résumé:Ἂγω and its twenty-two compounds present a broad range of usages in the Septuagint and New Testament, and the differing constraints on the Greek verbs and the English verbs that best translate them can pose difficulty for interpretation. This article resolves the occurrences of ἂγω and its compounds into nineteen distinct usages. The discussion of each usage describes features of the conceptualization of the usage, specifies the semantic and syntactic requirements for the verbs with the usage, identifies the observed lexical realizations of requiered complements, and proposes translations that clarify the interpretation of the verbs with the usage. The concluding discussion identifies significant changes in the distriburion of usages of the verbs from the Septuagint to the New Testament.
