La glorievse mort is a hagiographic account of the first native Vietnamese martyr, Blessed Andrew of Phú Yên (Anrê Phú Yên), written with a clear intention to introduce a cult of a native Vietnamese Catholic as a venerated saint (albeit not yet formally canonised or beatified). The text will be examined in the context of de Rhodes’ life and missionary pursuits. | ||
