Celle-ci est pensée différemment selon les auteurs et les siècles, de Platon à Proclus. À l’époque impériale, des auteurs accordent une valeur religieuse au poète en dépeignant la dévotion de certaines personnes à son égard. D’autres assimilent son contact intime avec le divin à un service sacerdotal. Cette conception, liée aux lectures allégoriques des poèmes, pourrait s’appuyer sur des usages rituels de la poésie homérique bien attestés dans la documentation papyrologique tardive, mais peut-être aussi sur une pratique de lectures allégoriques relevant de mystères. | ||

They take place above all in argumentative passages where Homer is cited as an authority. Yet, since they refer to the concept of poetic inspiration, they can also be the basis for a broader reflection on what is implied by the idea of divine inspiration. It is conceived in different ways depending on authors and centuries, from Plato to Proclus. In the imperial period, some authors attribute a religious value to the poet, by depicting the devotion of certain people to him. Others equate his intimate contact with the divine with a priestly service. This conception, related to allegorical readings of the poems, could be based on ritual uses of Homeric poetry, well attested in late papyrological documentation, but perhaps also on a practice of allegorical readings perceived as mysteries. | ||
