Jerusalem war in seiner Geschichte immer schon Ziel der Menschen: Eroberer, Wallfahrer, Siedler oder Touristen zog es in die Geburtsstadt des Monotheismus. Der seit 50 Jahren wissenschaftlich tätige Othmar Keel skizziert in knappen Strichen, wie der israelitisch-jüdische Monotheismus bei seiner Entstehung viele Erfahrungen, Symbole und Erkenntnisse polytheistischer Religionen aufgenommen und in seine globale Vision integriert hat. Das zu zeigen verwendet Keel ebenso biblische wie außerbiblische Texte, archäologische wie neueste ikonographische Funde. Besonders letztere kommen in seiner Darstellung stark zum Zug und führen wiederholt zu überraschend neuen Einsichten. | ||
