His thought on Islam's compatibility with democracy is controversial. The debate is usually based on understanding his concept of ḥākimiyya, ‘sovereignty’. Contributing to the debate, this article focuses on the militants' understanding of sovereignty in relation to democracy, and Quṭb's response to them. |
