520 |a Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es, durch Analyse von konkreten Reise- und Erfahrungsberichten und deren Diskussionskontexten nachzuvollziehen, wie im späten 18. Jahrhundert Christentum und „Türckische Religion“ in Bezug aufeinander konzeptionalisiert worden sind. Weder das „Wesen“ noch „der Islam“ stehen im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchungen, sondern die historische Perspektive, die Akteure des 18. Jahrhunderts darauf hatten. Der historische Kontext wird dabei einerseits in Bezug auf den heute eher unbekannten Pfarrer Christoph Wilhelm Lüdeke (1737-1805) und andererseits hinsichtlich dessen Werke untersucht. Von 1759 bis 1768 war er Pastor einer lutherischen Gemeinde in Smyrna (heute Izmir). Neue Quellen liefern Einblicke in die Anfänge der protestantischen Kirchen- und Missionsgeschichte in Smyrna. Lüdekes bekannteste Werke zeigen unter anderem, wie die „Türckische Religion“ als Schablone für interkonfessionelle Streitigkeiten benutzt wurde. 
520 |a The following thesis aims to analyze travel reports and their discussional contexts and to comprehend how Christianity and “Turkish Religion” of the late 18th century were conceptualized in reference to each other. Neither the “substance” nor “the Islam” are at the centre of attention but the actors’ historical perspective in 18th century. On the one hand the historical context is examined concerning the nowadays quite unknown pastor Christoph Wilhelm Lüdeke (1737-1805) and on the other hand referring to his writings. He has been a pastor of a Lutheran congregation in Smyrna (nowadays Izmir) from 1759 till 1768. New resources provide insights into the beginnings of the Protestant church and missionary history in Smyrna. Lüdeke’s best known writings illustrate how the “Turkish Religion” was used as a mask for interconfessional conflicts.
