Summary:Formorethansixdecadesnow,thestudyofreligioningeneralandChristianstudiesinparticularinNigeriantertiaryinstitutionhasbeenoneoftheareaswithwhichscholarshavepreoccupiedthemselves,attemptingtomakereligion,initsmultifariousandmultidimensionalmanifestations,moreintelligible.Structuredactivitiesintermsofaccumulatingknowledgeandprogressive,critical,anddispassionateresearchinChristianstudies,whicharewelldisseminatedthroughteaching,learningandliteratureiswhatistakentobeamanifestationoftherealityofacademictraditioninChristianstudiesinNigeria.ItishoweverobservedthatthisacademictraditionisnotconsciouslybuiltaroundindigenousChristianstudies’scholarsinNigeria,asviews,opinions,orviewpointsonissuesinChristianstudiesbyNigerianscholarsaresometimesnotwellknownbytheircolleagues;talklessoftheseconstitutingobjectsofacademicengagements.ThisisinspiteofthedemonstrationofvastknowledgeofviewpointsespousedbyforeignscholarsbyNigerianChristianstudies’scholars.ThisstudyadoptedthedescriptivemethodofresearchinexplainingthecurrentpracticetherebyidentifyingpracticesthatdonotengenderrobustacademictraditioninChristianstudiesinNigeriawiththeviewtoimprovingonthis.ThepaperconcludedthatbuildingavirileandenduringacademictraditioninChristianstudiesinNigeriarequiresdeliberateattemptstopromoteinteractionwithindigenousacademicworksinChristianstudies.Thisisnotanadvocacyforethnocentrismbutgenuineeffortsatdomesticating knowledge in Christian studies.
