Ab 1969 lehrte er an der Universität Freiburg im Breisgau und habilitierte sich dort 1973. 1975 wurde Brednich Herausgeber der Volkskunde-Bibliographie und lehrte ab diesem Jahr am Freiburger Volkskunde-Institut als Extraordinarius, bis er 1981 auf den Lehrstuhl für Volkskunde der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen berufen wurde. Ab 2005 an der Victoria University of Wellington in Neuseeland. | ||
