Summary: | The article analyses the way in which modern Arabic drama deals with Arabic social history. The analysis takes place within the framework of the main currents of Arabic drama: neoclassicism, realism and creationalism. The greatest difference is depicted between the neoclassicist and the creationalist drama. Whereas the first presents a glorious past often entering mythology and legends the latter treating either concrete events (e.g. the Arab-Israeli wars, the struggle for independence) or transferring old Arabic-Islamic history and legends to the present socio-political situation.
