Summary: | The multiethnic societies of East-Central Europe gave rise to varied combinations of ethnic and denominational affiliation. One group, the Lutheran community of German-speaking Transylvanian Saxons on the whole, is dwindling. However, although most of the Saxons emigrated from the village of Weilau (Transylvania/ Romania) too, the Lutheran parish there is still thriving, being kept up by the local Roma. The article traces the beginnings and the development of denominational relations between Saxons and Roma in Weilau and describes the present situation in this multiethnic and multidenominational village. |
