Description
Summary:Religious movements are no homogenous units, even though they are treated as such fairly often. This is the case with »the« Pentecostal movement, too. Of course, concepts are necessary. However, it is interesting to identify the inner differentiation of religious movements and its reasons. In order to do so, it is useful to dispose of theory and method to describe the interplay between social conditions and religious praxis, especially cognitive dispositions. The author sketches such tools – based on the theory of Pierre Bourdieu – by an analysis of the Pentecostal movement in Guatemala during the eighties, and he identifies non-religious factors responsible for religious differentiation.
