Summary:The article examines the papal encyclical "Laudato Si" by Pope Francis and specifically the influence of Saint Francis of Assissi on the encyclical. A brief profile of Pope Francis is provided who was elected as the 266th successor of Saint Peter in the Catholic Church in 2013. Also discussed are the factors that led the pope to chose Francis as his papal name, the pope as a contemporary model of Saint Francis, and Saint Francis as the patron saint of ecology.
