Description
Summary:This article examines what can be learnt from the Qurʾanic dialogue between Allah and Iblīs (Satan), focusing on both the conceptual framework and the events that occurred. The verses in which the angels and Iblīs were commanded to bow down to Adam, the latter’s refusal, Allah’s questioning as to the disobedience of Iblīs, the response and subsequent expulsion of Iblīs from heaven, his request for respite and its approval, his promises of revenge, and the ultimate fate of Iblīs are all examined. The study suggests that the dialogue between Allah and Iblīs was a key turning point in human history and determined fundamental aspects of life. Iblīs’ transformation into a vengeful enemy of man is the central event of this dialogue, and his character was completely changed at this point.
