Summary: | This paper argues for the primacy of tradition in constructing a theological framework for interpreting the Hebrew Bible as (in this case Jewish) Scripture. It suggests a way of approaching the idea of Divine revelation that is neither dependent on a miraculous moment at Sinai nor disregards the need for a robust sense of Divine agency. It does so by focussing on the side of tradition, understood in Rabbinic terms as every bit as revealed as the text of the Torah, and what this entails in terms of exegetical freedom and responsibility. |
