Description
Summary:The paper discusses the objects and approaches that teachers mobilize when teaching about religion and evaluates what their students actually learn thereby. The contents as well as its didactization are conceptualized as “knowledge”. As it is used in the sociology of knowledge, knowledge is understood as a general concept. It includes communication among teachers and pupils, which may be both theoretical and pratical. Building on empirical research, the paper shows that there is a fundamental difference between religious and secular knowledge about eligions and that there are important correspondences between what the teacher's production and the students' reception.
