| Summary: | This paper represents an overview of psychopathy and its assessment in the field of mental health. Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a pattern of emotional, interpersonal and behavioural characteristics (Hare, 1999). Cult leaders and those following terrorist ideologies attain positions of power by psychopathically abusing religion. To help restore the faith in the healing powers of spirituality and religion, interventions are suggested for both psychopath and survivor. Future research suggests treatment programs targeted to early detection in efforts to diminish psychopathic tendencies. Cet article présente une vue d'ensemble de la psychopathie et de son dépistage dans le domaine de la santé mentale. En tant que désordre de la personnalité, la psychopathie se reconnaît à des patrons émotionnels, interpersonnels et comportementaux (Hare, 1999). Les chefs de sectes religieuses et ceux épousant des idéologies terroristes en arrivent à asseoir leur pouvoir en tirant parti de la religion de manière psychopathique. Pour restaurer la foi dans les pouvoirs de guérison de la spiritualité et de la religion, les auteurs proposent des interventions tant auprès du psychopathe que de ses victimes. Les recherches futures devraient s'employer à détecter tôt la psychopathie de manière à diminuer la portée de telles tendances. |
