Résumé:Collection of an article and two interviews on the riot in Kano city on 11th August 1996. A. Olorunfewa examines the background and the incidence of the riot in which Shiite Muslims fought with their fellow Muslims on Id-El Maulud, birthday of Prophet Mohammed. He also discusses how Kano has become a flash-point of religious and ethnic conflicts during the past decades and how the authorities are getting worried about the increasing violence of the Shiites. In the interviews a spokesman of a district in Kano and Jimoh Yekini, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kano State, give their respective versions of the riot. (DÜI-Sen)
