Summary:The author gives information on the present democratization process in Kuwait. The 1992 elections characterized a change in Kuwait's political system and culture from a traditional hereditary to a modern representative form. The author examines the different political groups, the authority of the Sabah family, the influence of the parliament, the role of Islam and socio-cultural changes in Kuwait. He questions whether the present democratization will be an ongoing process or a temporary experiment; be that as it may, the present democratization in Kuwait definately has an impact on the other Gulf states.
