Résumé:According to the author the problem for the future of the Middle East and North Africa derives from the fact that the old regimes adress the current social, economic and political problems with old solutions. In this article he analyzes the political and economic future of Algeria. Thus the author examines Algeria's transition from a one-party political system into a multiparty democracy, the emergence of Islamic fundamentalism and its impact on Algeria's foreign relations, and Algeria's economic situation.
